The price question

How it differs from supermarket oil

The same words on the label do not mean the same product in the bottle. The difference starts with the bottle itself.

What is early harvest?

Early harvest

Why the olives are picked in October, not December

Olives can be picked green or ripe. That choice decides almost everything you taste in the bottle — and what the bottle costs.

01

Green olives

Picked in October, still unripe. A ripe olive gives more oil but less of everything else — aroma, polyphenols, character.

02

More polyphenols

300–600 mg/kg instead of the usual 50–150. These are the antioxidants that protect the oil itself from going off, and blood lipids from oxidative stress.

03

Bright aroma, full flavour

Freshly cut grass, artichoke, green apple. The bitterness on the tongue and the pepper in the throat are not a defect — they are a sign of freshness and polyphenols.

04

Lower yield, smaller batches

Green olives yield considerably less oil than ripe ones. That is why the batches are limited and a litre costs more than it does in a supermarket.

The polyphenol claim comes from the European Commission list of authorised health claims; it applies to oils containing at least 5 mg of hydroxytyrosol and its derivatives per 20 g of oil, at a daily intake of 20 g.

What it does for you

What you actually get in every spoonful

Early harvest oil differs from ordinary oil not in its label but in what survives inside it. Three reasons to pour it every day.

  • For your heart

    For your heart

Olive oil is almost entirely unsaturated fat. Replacing saturated fats with unsaturated ones in the diet helps maintain normal blood cholesterol levels.

  • For your cells

    For your cells

Early harvest oil holds 300–500 mg/kg of polyphenols — several times more than ordinary oil. Olive oil polyphenols help protect blood lipids from oxidative stress.

  • Vitamin E

    Vitamin E

Olive oil is a natural source of vitamin E, which contributes to the protection of cells from oxidative stress.

The claims about unsaturated fats, olive oil polyphenols and vitamin E come from the European Commission list of authorised health claims.

From tree to your table — four steps

  1. OCTOBER Early harvest

The olives are picked while still green, when they hold the most polyphenols and the least acidity.

  2. WITHIN 4 HOURS Cold pressing

From tree to mill the same day, at below 27 °C.

  3. NOVEMBER A fresh bottle

The oil is bottled straight after pressing and travels to us — not to a warehouse.

  4. 1–2 WORKING DAYS Your kitchen

From our warehouse in Lithuania. There is nothing else between the farm and you.

The questions almost everyone asks

Did not find your answer? Write to info@oliva.lt — we reply the same day.

Why does it cost more than supermarket oil?

Because it is a different product. Supermarket oil is usually a blend from several farms, made from a late harvest a year or two ago. Ours comes from one farm, one variety, an early and fresh harvest. Spread over a day, the difference is about 11 cents.

Why is the oil bitter and peppery in the throat?

That is the mark of polyphenols — the same antioxidants that make olive oil healthy. The sharper the sting in the throat, the fresher and more valuable the oil. Poor oil has none of it at all.

Can you cook with it?

You can — the smoke point of extra virgin oil is around 190–210 °C, which is enough for pan frying. But early harvest oil shows its best cold, so use something simpler for frying and pour this one over the finished dish.

How long does an opened bottle keep?

About 2–3 months. Keep it somewhere dark and cool, away from the stove and the window — light, heat and air are the enemies of oil. It does not need the fridge.

How far does a 500 ml bottle go?

For an average household, about two months if you use it on salads, vegetables and bread. If you cook every day and use it generously — about a month.

How soon will my order arrive?

Orders placed before 14:00 on a working day are shipped the same day. The parcel reaches the locker in 1–2 working days. Delivery is free from €49.99.

What if a bottle breaks in transit?

Write to us with a photo — we replace it free and without argument. Bottles travel in a protective cardboard insert, but things happen.

Can I return an unopened bottle?

Yes, within 14 days of receiving it, if the packaging is undamaged. We refund the full price of the item.
